Stu's Tree
My Roberts family are from London. Great-grandfather Roberts married a Leeper whose family originate from Essex. He was in the Army, serving mainly abroad, and I have been unable to find their marriage. I am therefore stuck as I do not know his father's name.
Grandfather Roberts married an Allkins, whose family originate from Derbyshire. Great-grandfather Allkins married a Norton, whose parents were Norton from London, and Springall from Norfolk.
My mother was born in Kent. Her family is mostly untraceable due to her being illegitimate, her mother being abandoned as a child, and her grandfather and great grandmother both being illegitimate. This doesn't leave too many families to work on!!   Traceable names are Mockford and Akehurst from Sussex, and Dunkinson from Hampshire.
My parents met in 1942 whilst both serving in the RAF at Northwood, near London.
I still have a lot of work to do on my family.
Liz's Tree
All my paternal line are from Cornwall. My Hooper family are from St.Austell, the hamlet of Carrancarrow, now sadly swallowed up by the china clay industry.
Great-grandfather Hooper married a Yelland and most of her ancestors are from the parishes of St.Stephen-in-Brannel, Roche and St.Dennis.
Grandfather Hooper married a Jeffery and most of her ancestors are from the parish of Linkinhorne.
My Mother's family of Goodburn originate from Shap in Westmorland.
Great grand-father Goodburn married a Wilson, whose parents were Wilson from Scotland and Hallam from Yorkshire.
Grandfather Goodburn married a Francklin whose parents were Francklin from Kent and Hyne from Devon.
My parents met in 1942 in St.Austell. Grandfather Goodburn was a teacher at King's School, Canterbury, and the school was evacuated to St.Austell for the duration of the war.

James Ernest Hobbs did a lot of research on his family of Francklin, Hosking and Hyne in the 1960's. Below are 3 of his histories that I inherited.

FRANCKLIN. The Francklin family of Wye, Ramsgate and Margate, Kent.

HOSKING. The Hosking family of South Brent, Loddiswell and Blackawton, Devon.

HYNE. The Hyne family of Blackawton, Devon.

          YELLAND

Although the YELLAND family originates from Devon, we are only researching the descendants of Thomas Yelland who was born about 1577 in South Brent, Devon, the son of John Yelland and Margaret Cholwell. The family in South Brent spelt the name as Yolland and used the alias Welbrooke, possibly to avoid religious persecution. There are Yolland and Welbrooke families recorded in South Brent as early as 1525.
Thomas married Mary Lyston on the 6 Aug 1599 in South Brent and around 1605, after the birth of his first three children, he moved to St.Stephen in Brannel, Cornwall. His descendants remained in the parish for the next 200 years, mainly as tenant farmers of the Boconnoc Estate, the principal landowner of the parish.
From the early 1800’s onwards, with the growth of the china clay industry, many of the family moved into this new industry as labourers, clay agents and captains. Also from around this time, many Yellands moved to adjacent parishes and beyond, and some emigrated to America, Australia and South Africa. We are attempting to identify every descendant of Thomas.
